What is MBKM?

In early 2020, the Ministry of Education and Culture issued the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy. The MBKM policy generally provides study rights for undergraduate and applied undergraduate students for three (3) semesters outside the study program.

In its implementation, students can voluntarily take learning outside the study program at Unpad for 1 (one) semester or the equivalent of 20 (twenty) credits; and a maximum of 2 (two) semesters or the equivalent of 40 (forty) credits to take learning in the same study program outside Unpad, learning in different study programs in different universities; and/or learning outside the university.

The calculation of semester credit units (credits) for off-campus learning activities is calculated based on the number of hours of activity. One (1) credit is equivalent to 170 minutes per week per semester.

What is the purpose of the Merdeka Study-Merdeka Campus policy?

The MBKM policy is implemented to realize an autonomous and flexible learning process in higher education so that universities can design and implement innovative learning processes so that students can achieve learning outcomes covering aspects of attitude, knowledge, and skills optimally. This policy also aims to improve links and matches with the business world and the industrial world, and to prepare students for the world of work from the start. Furthermore, the MBKM policy aims to improve the competence of graduates, both soft skills and hard skills so that they are better prepared and relevant to the needs of the times, as well as preparing graduates as future leaders of the nation who are superior and have personality.

What activities are carried out in Kampus Merdeka?

Learning process activities outside the study programs in Merdeka Campus include internships or work practices, projects in the village, student exchanges, research, entrepreneurship, independent studies, humanitarian projects, and teaching in schools. These activities can be managed by the study program or under the coordination of the related directorates in the Islamic University of Riau neighborhood.

What are the requirements to join Kampus Merdeka?

  1. UIR undergraduate or applied undergraduate students from accredited study programs. UIR undergraduate or applied undergraduate students who have completed four (4) semesters. Active students who are registered in the Higher Education Database.
  2. Students are willing to follow the program activities outside the study program by the provisions of the applicable academic guidelines.

How do I participate in Kampus Merdeka activities?

  • Students report to the Academic Counsellor/Chairman and plan together with the academic counseling lecturer on the course/program to be taken outside the program.
  • The student enrolls in the program of activities outside of prodi following the program offered by the study/university.
  • Student completes the requirements for activities outside the study program according to the activities chosen by him/her.
  • For 2020/2021 military students, when can I attend the Merdeka Campus? As required, an applied Unpad S1 or S1 student must complete four (4) semesters. So a new 2020/2021 student will be able to start following him in the fifth (V) semester of the 2022/2023 academic year.

The implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) aims to accelerate the transformation of Indonesian universities towards globally competitive universities and transform into universities that are more independent and healthy and have excellence in education, research, or community service, according to the differentiation of their missions.

These activities will get a maximum equivalency or conversion of 20 credits per activity per semester. Through this choice, students are expected to be able to develop independence in seeking and finding knowledge through real experience and field dynamics.

In the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, students of the Faculty of Islamic Religion have the opportunity to take part in the MBKM program which is attended by 2 students of the Sharia Economics study program and 1 student from the Early Childhood Islamic Education study program.
