Sharia Banking Study Program is one of the Study Programs at the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Universitas Islam Riau. The establishment of the Sharia Banking Study Program was initiated by Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MM. ME.Sy who at that time served as Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Religion along with other leaders of the Faculty of Islamic Religion. He saw great potential and opportunities for the establishment of the Study Program by reflecting on the needs of Sharia Banking Human Resources (HR) in the future. So he immediately formed a team for the preparation and formulation of proposals for the establishment of the Sharia Banking Study Program which was submitted first to Kopertais Region XII Riau-Kepri to obtain a recommendation letter for the establishment of study programs and then submitted to DIKTIS-Kemenag to obtain a decree for the establishment of study programs.
The Sharia Banking Study Program was established on July 31, 2017 with the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education number 4142 of 2017 concerning the permit for the Implementation of Study Programs in the Undergraduate Program of Private Islamic Religious Universities. Based on the decree, the Sharia Banking Study Program began the process of implementing education and teaching in the odd semester of the 2017/2018 academic year by recruiting 5 students and 5 teaching staff. The five teaching staff are:

- Ficha Melina, SE. Sy., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)
- Mufti Hasan Alfani, SE. Sy., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)
- Princess Nuraini, SE. Sy., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)
- Rahmawati, SE.I., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)
In 2018, the Sharia Banking Study Program published a scientific journal called Jurnal Tabarru': Islamic Banking and Finance. The journal contains researches on Islamic Banking and other Islamic Financial Institutions. Jurnal Tabarru' : Islamic Banking and Finance is published 2 times a year, namely in May and November. Tabbarru Journal : Islamic Banking and Finance is led by Dr. Zulfadli Hamzah, B.IFB., M.IFB as Editor In Chief and Putri Nuraini, SE. Sy., ME as Manager Editor. The purpose of establishing this journal is to make it easier for lecturers and students to publish the results of the research they have done.
On September 1, 2020, the Sharia Banking Study Program has been accredited with a "GOOD" rating by BAN-PT with the issuance of Decree number: 2373/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IV/2021 concerning Fulfillment of Accreditation Rating Requirements for Sharia Banking Study Program at the Undergraduate Program of Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru City. The results of the Accreditation Rating are valid for 5 years until March 4, 2026.

Mission
- Organizing education and teaching on Islamic finance and banking that is quality, appropriate and competitive.
- Conduct creative and innovative research on Islamic finance and banking and publish it nationally, regionally and internationally.
- Organizing community service as a sustainable social responsibility in the context of developing Islamic finance and banking sciences.
- Organizing Islamic da’wah to integrate Islamic values in the academic field.
- Establish cooperation with policy makers, and other Islamic financial institutions that are mutually beneficial, both at home and abroad, based on akhlakul karimah and build alumni networks.
Tujuan Keilmuan Program Studi
- Producing graduates of the Sharia Banking Study Program who are qualified, have competence, entrepreneurial spirit and are highly competitive at the local, national and international levels.
- Produce creative, innovative and useful research for the development of science and technology and lead to national and international publications.
- Produce community service activities that are able to encourage the potential of human resources and natural resources in order to improve the welfare of the community and the environment.
- Realizing the development of integrated spiritual values and the implementation of an academic culture that is creative, innovative, has a work ethic and life skills that are useful in the community.
- Producing cooperation with educational institutions and the business world both government and private at the local, national and international levels as well as the realization of intensive silahturahmi with alumni to build the glory and sustainability of the study program.
