History

Sharia Banking Study Program is one of the Study Programs at the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Universitas Islam Riau. The establishment of the Sharia Banking Study Program was initiated by Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MM. ME.Sy who at that time served as Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Religion along with other leaders of the Faculty of Islamic Religion. He saw great potential and opportunities for the establishment of the Study Program by reflecting on the needs of Sharia Banking Human Resources (HR) in the future. So he immediately formed a team for the preparation and formulation of proposals for the establishment of the Sharia Banking Study Program which was submitted first to Kopertais Region XII Riau-Kepri to obtain a recommendation letter for the establishment of study programs and then submitted to DIKTIS-Kemenag to obtain a decree for the establishment of study programs.

The Sharia Banking Study Program was established on July 31, 2017 with the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education number 4142 of 2017 concerning the permit for the Implementation of Study Programs in the Undergraduate Program of Private Islamic Religious Universities. Based on the decree, the Sharia Banking Study Program began the process of implementing education and teaching in the odd semester of the 2017/2018 academic year by recruiting 5 students and 5 teaching staff. The five teaching staff are:

  1. Dr. Zulfadli Hamzah, B.IFB., M.IFB (Expertise: Islamic Banking and Finance)
  2. Ficha Melina, SE. Sy., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)
  3. Mufti Hasan Alfani, SE. Sy., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)
  4. Princess Nuraini, SE. Sy., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)
  5. Rahmawati, SE.I., ME (Field of Expertise: Sharia Economics)

In 2018, the Sharia Banking Study Program published a scientific journal called Jurnal Tabarru’: Islamic Banking and Finance. The journal contains researches on Islamic Banking and other Islamic Financial Institutions. Jurnal Tabarru’ : Islamic Banking and Finance is published 2 times a year, namely in May and November. Tabbarru Journal : Islamic Banking and Finance is led by Dr. Zulfadli Hamzah, B.IFB., M.IFB as Editor In Chief and Putri Nuraini, SE. Sy., ME as Manager Editor. The purpose of establishing this journal is to make it easier for lecturers and students to publish the results of the research they have done. <br><br>

On September 1, 2020, the Sharia Banking Study Program has been accredited with a “GOOD” rating by BAN-PT with the issuance of Decree number: 2373/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IV/2021 concerning Fulfillment of Accreditation Rating Requirements for Sharia Banking Study Program at the Undergraduate Program of Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru City. The results of the Accreditation Rating are valid for 5 years until March 4, 2026.
