Sharia Economics Study Program is one of the study programs at the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Riau Islamic University, formerly known as the Faculty of Ushuluddin, the Faculty of Ushuluddin UIR is the forerunner of the emergence of the Faculty of Islamic Religion UIR Pekanbaru, officially established on May 17, 1969. The Faculty of Ushuluddin, which takes care of the Department of Da’wah, has changed because the Department of Da’wah has become a separate faculty within the Islamic Higher Education (PTAI) with the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs Number: E / 189 / 1996 dated November 12, 1996, as well as a change in the name of the Faculty of Ushuluddin to the Faculty of Islamic Religion Department of Aqidah Philosophy with the status of “equalized” and the Department of Islamic Communication (Da’wah) with the status of “registered”.

The Sharia Economics study program was established on January 19, 2001, in accordance with Decree number 06 / XII / K / 2001 Kopertais Region XII Riau-Kepri under the name Islamic Economics / Muamalah Economics. Then the permit for the implementation of the study program was extended based on the decision of the Director General of Islamic Education Number: DJ. I / 216 C / 2007 with the name of the Islamic Economics study program. The establishment of the Sharia Economics Study Program as a necessity in producing human resources who have Islamic-based economic science. The name change from the Islamic economics department to the Sharia Economics Study Program is in accordance with the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education number 4561 of 2020 concerning the Adjustment of the NOMENCLATURE of the Riau Islamic University Study Program from the Islamic Economics Study Program to the Sharia Economics Study Program with an SE (Bachelor of Economics) graduate degree, this decision is in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia number 33 of 2016 concerning the Academic Degree of Religious Universities of the Islamic Economics / Economics Study Program Muamalah has changed to Sharia Economics Study Program and the Decree of the Director General of Learning and Student Affairs of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia number 232 / B / HK / 2019 concerning the Name of Study Programs in Higher Education.

On November 14, 2015, the Sharia Economics Study Program has been accredited B by BAN-PT with the issuance of Decree number: 1151 / SK / BAN-PT / Akred / S / XI / 2015 concerning the Value and Accreditation Rating of Study Programs at the Undergraduate Program of Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru City. Then it was extended based on the decision of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education Number: 8586 / SK / BAN-PT / Ak-PPJ / S / XII / 2020 concerning Accreditation of Sharia Economics Study Programs at the Undergraduate Program of Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru City.
